Pregnant and No Insurance?
If you’ve recently found out you’re pregnant—and it wasn’t something you planned—you might be wondering:
“How am I going to afford this? What kind of care do I need? What if I don’t have insurance?”
You’re not alone, and those are all valid questions. We’re here to help you navigate your prenatal care, insurance and Medicaid.
At Another Way Pregnancy Center (AWPC), we’re here to walk alongside you with information, resources, and compassionate support. Let’s break down your healthcare options so you can feel more confident about your next steps.
Why Prenatal Care Matters
Prenatal care includes healthy lifestyle choices, good nutrition and medical care during pregnancy that helps keep you and your baby healthy. It includes checkups, ultrasounds, screenings, and guidance from trained professionals.
Even if you’re unsure about your pregnancy decision—whether you’re considering parenting, adoption, or abortion—it’s still important to take care of your health right now. Early prenatal care can detect any potential issues and give you the peace of mind you deserve.
What If I Don’t Have Insurance?
This is a common concern, especially with an unexpected pregnancy. The good news? You have options.
If you're in Michigan and don’t have insurance, you may qualify for Medicaid for Pregnant Women, which offers full coverage throughout your pregnancy and up to one year postpartum. Many women are surprised at how quickly they can apply and start receiving benefits.
There are a great variety of Medicaid programs available to Michigan famillies and if you’re unsure how to apply or what paperwork you need, our team can help walk you through the process.
How AWPC Can Help
We offer free pregnancy testing and limited obstetrical ultrasound to confirm viability and how far along you are. Knowing that information early can also affect your options, especially if you're considering abortion.
In addition, we can help connect you with prenatal care providers in your area, guide you through the Medicaid application process, and answer questions about your next steps—judgment-free.
We also have mentoring relationships, parenting education, moms’ groups, family events and a baby boutique with everything from clothing, car seats, strollers, diapers, toys and books. Our monthly, one-one-one appointments are available from pregnancy until a child’s second birthday.
You don’t have to figure this out alone. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, scared, uncertain, or just need to talk, we’re here to listen and help.
