  • AWPC provides free lab-quality urine pregnancy tests. If you have a positive pregnancy test result, you will be provided with additional resources and information based on your needs and plans.

  • At this time AWPC does not offer ongoing prenatal medical services to clients beyond a medical quality pregnancy test, limited obstetric ultrasound to confirm viability and gestational age, and options counseling. AWPC can offer doctor referrals for ongoing prenatal care, including providers that offer services for free and at sliding scales or discounted rates. AWPC can also provide a prescription for prenatal vitamins.

  • You can receive a limited obstetric ultrasound as early as 6 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).

  • You can bring a support person to your appointment, whomever you would like that to be. If you need to bring any children to the appointment with you, please inform our office staff when scheduling your appointment.

  • All services at AWPC are completely free and confidential. No medical insurance is required, and no cash or monetary amount will be requested.

  • Options counseling provides a neutral space to ask questions and speak candidly about your pregnancy decisions. Medical staff are trained to guide you through your decision-making process without judgment or pressure. We will answer questions, talk through all your options, and help you consider how each option will impact you now and in the future. The information provided includes information about sexual health and well-being if you are found not to be pregnant and information about adoption, abortion, and parenting if you are pregnant. Please be aware that AWPC provides information on abortion procedures and risks, but we do not perform or provide referrals for abortion.

  • No. If you are under the age of 18, you can receive AWPC’s free and confidential services without parental attendance or consent, per Michigan law. You are welcome to bring your parent/guardian or another support person with you if you wish.

  • Pregnancy tests are most accurate if taken after you missed your period.

  • After receiving a positive pregnancy test, an ultrasound is always recommended. You should medically confirm your pregnancy after a positive test result.

  • No longer than one hour.

  • If your period is irregular, there is a higher likelihood that pregnancy dating is off. The only way to know for sure is to have an ultrasound.

  • LMP stands for last menstrual period. This date is calculated from the first day when bleeding began. This is not a sure indication of gestational age or pregnancy. Ultrasound is the only way to accurately confirm pregnancy dating.

  • Yes. AWPC medical services are performed by licensed professional medical staff and medical services are overseen by an obstetrician.
